0:00:00.000,0:00:02.280 This is charles with safe home consulting 0:00:02.440,0:00:04.200 Located in Tulsa Oklahoma 0:00:04.280,0:00:05.720 8722 East 41st street 0:00:06.640,0:00:08.240 We're going to do a quick 0:00:08.600,0:00:09.480 Assembly of a 0:00:11.600,0:00:18.600 Lower, strip lower with a lower parts kit just so you can see how it goes together its' going to be fairly fast we're going to use the least amount of tools available 0:00:18.600,0:00:24.320 i know many of you dont have the tools, brown als is the best place to get some of the small punches and things 0:00:24.320,0:00:29.640 we have them here as well but i wanted to do this using the least amount of specialty tools
AR 15 Build Tools List
0:00:32.580,0:00:39.580 you'll need an armorers wrench of sorts so you can tighten the castle nuts on the butt stocks a punch a small hammer notice in your parts 0:00:39.720,0:00:46.040 kit that the springs you'll have 3 small springs two of them are the same one of them is different 0:00:46.040,0:00:52.600 The different one is so that you can put it in where your safety goes the other two are for your take down pins 0:00:52.600,0:00:55.500 Separate your trigger partsmake sure they are all there 0:01:01.640,0:01:08.640 the spring for your receiver and the spring for the bolt catch are both very similar in shape one of them is larger at the base than it is at the top that is the one that goes with your trigger. 0:01:09.180,0:01:14.140 Make sure your trigger pins are available your magazine catch and all that 0:01:15.120,0:01:22.120 assembly isn't very hard just take it a bit slow and go steady with it the first thing i like to put in is the magazine catch 0:01:28.080,0:01:35.080 the magazine catch will fall into the slot and then you can turn it over take the magazine catch spring drop it over the magazine catch adn then the button goes on 0:01:39.940,0:01:46.940 start the button pressed down on the spring start the thread if it feels like it's going wrong it probably is it should turn on very smoothly with a slight pressure 0:01:54.140,0:02:01.140 turn it in a portion of the way then press the magazine button hold it with your finger spin it around until you get the desired tension you want it falls into place 0:02:02.880,0:02:09.880 press it make sure when you look inside that the magazine catch moves completely out of the way which will allow the magazine to fall out 0:02:13.340,0:02:20.340 the reason i put that in first is it's easier to go around the bolt catch before you put the bolt catch in so the magazine catch before the bolt catch makes your life a little bit simpler 0:02:24.560,0:02:31.560 the bolt catch has a small spring and a detent they go together the spring drops in the hole first then the bolt catch goes in 0:02:32.280,0:02:39.280 again we're using the least amount of tools if you set a card or a 3x5 piece of cardboard something like that 0:02:42.740,0:02:49.740 over the receiver it'll keep you from scracthing it they do make detent punches that'll hold, or roll pin punches that'll hold it 0:02:55.460,0:03:02.460 We're not using it becuase we're using the least amount of tools available line it up start tapping your roll pinch roll pin in make sure it lines up with the hole on the bolt catch 0:03:13.680,0:03:20.680 when you get close to the receiver you want to use the punch so that you dont damage the receivers or damage the coating on it 0:03:23.620,0:03:30.620 Punch it in the rest of the way and make sure that it moves freely the spring should make a bounce so that it'll move Freely another thing that 0:03:35.660,0:03:42.660 people have trouble with is on these front pivot pin it's hard for alot of people to get the spring the detent and the pivot pin in position they do make some tools 0:03:53.220,0:04:00.220 that'l work for that that will slide in and allow you to do it they do make your life easier the spring drops into the hole then i use my finger to more or less balance the detent on the spring so when i bring 0:04:03.420,0:04:10.380 my pin in it presses it down it's a little bit delicate you have to hold it at a slight angle to keep it lined up 0:04:11.120,0:04:18.000 And this is also where people end up shooting it across the room but then it falls into position that way. 0:04:19.700,0:04:26.700 Make sure thatt it presses back and forth you have it turned the right spot there's a notch on the pin which aligns with the receiver 0:04:26.700,0:04:28.260 so it'll go in all the way 0:04:28.260,0:04:31.220 if you dont have it turned correctly it wont go down all the way 0:04:31.660,0:04:38.660 and it pops into place it's very easy if you just hold your finger there to keep the detent in position and then bring the pin down on top of it. 0:04:45.240,0:04:52.240 On your trigger you have the trigger itself and the trigger spring the trigger spring sets on the trigger with the little ears going downward 0:04:54.880,0:05:01.200 that will pop over the ears on the trigger the spring with the larger portion towards the bottom 0:05:01.700,0:05:02.580 goes in first 0:05:03.800,0:05:10.600 you have to twist it a little bit to get it in make sure it's fully seated then your sear sits on top of that 0:05:14.180,0:05:21.180 some aftermarket triggers have a pin that will go in here and help stabilize it it makes it a little easier it's not completely necessary 0:05:21.720,0:05:28.720 drop your trigger in make sure you can see through the hole on your trigger pin and your hammer pin are the same 0:05:28.720,0:05:31.920 There are two notches on the trigger pin and the hammer pin
AR 15 Build Tricks to Help
0:05:33.660,0:05:40.660 if you put the side without the notch in first it makes it a little bit easier for you when you put your hammer in the hammer spring is going to catch 0:05:40.660,0:05:41.480 on one of those notches 0:05:48.600,0:05:55.560 The trigger pin will press through the trigger and the sear and make sure the trigger is even on both sides 0:05:55.560,0:06:00.040 the trigger should move with a little spring tension then becomes your hammer 0:06:01.400,0:06:08.400 the hammer spring should go over the ears of the hammer the same way the trigger did and make sure that it's pointing down 0:06:08.400,0:06:15.300 as the hammer goes forward it needs the spring tension to push it dont put it on the other way some people will clip the springs on the hammer 0:06:17.740,0:06:24.540 to try and make for a better trigger. does it make it lighter yes can you get light primer strikes yes if you dont get them initially will you get them over time 0:06:24.540,0:06:25.040 yes you wil 0:06:25.040,0:06:29.180 Ther will be people that will tell you oh i've had it that way for three or 4 years 0:06:29.180,0:06:34.240 question would then be how much did they actually shoot it if you want a better trigger buy a better trigger. 0:06:36.480,0:06:43.480 cutting the springs is going to change the trigger and it may make it feel a bit better it's not going to be to your benefit 0:06:47.860,0:06:54.860 The roll pin that goes in for the hammer has 2 notches on it and also the portion with the out the notch goes in first make sure it's lined up 0:06:58.100,0:07:05.100 and it'll press through there's a detent detent inside the hammer so you're going to take a little bit more pressure to push it through make sure it's lined up 0:07:10.860,0:07:17.860 you'll feel it click into position hammer should move freely on the ears of the hammer the two springs make sure those springs are going back and it aligns with the notch in the trigger pin 0:07:19.080,0:07:26.080 that will the notch in the trigger pin wil spring from the hammer in the notch of the trigger pin will keep it from backing out. 0:07:26.080,0:07:32.940 there's a notch inside the, a spring inside the hammer that fits in the center notch that keeps it from backing out 0:07:38.500,0:07:45.500 so directly installed mill speced parts shouldn't require anti roll pins things like that that back out after backing out something is out of spec or something is worn not saying 0:07:45.500,0:07:50.880 that anti roll pins are bad i'm just saying that if you install it properly you probably wont need them 0:07:56.860,0:08:03.860 on the trigger housing there's a spring portion a hole, no hole make sure that the spring portion goes in the side with the hole 0:08:03.860,0:08:10.540 when you put your punch in or the roll pin in its' going to go in the other side so that you can see through it 0:08:12.900,0:08:19.900 dont put the roll pin closest to the magazine well you''ll have to drill it out to get it out. also you want to back that ear on the 0:08:19.900,0:08:25.520 Ear on the receiver where the roll pin is going to go in you're going to want to make sure you back that 0:08:25.520,0:08:31.120 if you dont back it you start hammering the roll pin into position you'll likely break the ear. 0:08:32.320,0:08:39.320 they do make roll pin punches they make holders for roll pins which makes things easier to hold it in position 0:08:43.900,0:08:50.900 This roll pin will hammer down in when you get close to the receiver use a punch so you're not hitting your hammer against the receiver 0:08:52.160,0:08:55.120 and drive your roll pin the rest of the way in. 0:08:55.280,0:09:02.280 This spring here will allow you to open it for winter use. the safety and the pistol grip kind of go to gether. 0:09:04.340,0:09:11.340 if you cock the hammer drop your safety in you'll see a notch on one side of the safety that aligns with the hole here 0:09:17.560,0:09:24.560 so ti'll drop in the safety detent is shaped differently it's slightly larger than the take down detent the detent drops in 0:09:29.660,0:09:36.660 and then the stiffer of the two springs it'll be slightly shorter and stiffer that goes inside the hole of the pistol grip the pistol grip slides 0:09:36.660,0:09:39.440 down over it with the spring aligns with that detent 0:09:47.580,0:09:54.580 the washer and the screw then go together some of them will be a flat head screw many of them now are alan head screws which are much easier 0:10:00.520,0:10:07.520 align the hole and start turning it in if it feels like it's not going correctly it's probably not you do not want to strip or cross thread this screw as you put it in 0:10:12.720,0:10:16.560 If it feels like something is wrong something probably is 0:10:22.240,0:10:29.240 Turn it in tight you dont have to be sampson to put it in make sure your safety moves freely the first time you move it 0:10:29.240,0:10:32.780 it'll probably be a little tighter becuase it hasn't worked on that detent yet 0:10:38.760,0:10:45.760 make sure it moves freely as you do it you release the hammer your buffer tube your castle nut the castle nut has notches on both sides of the nut 0:10:46.000,0:10:53.000 The deeper notches go towards the back of the buffer tube that will start screwing on screw it all the way to the back of the threads 0:10:54.320,0:10:57.120 it'll make it easier for you in the long run 0:11:00.220,0:11:07.220 The end plate slides on the notch on the end plate goes towards the receiver the back side goes towards the back of that 0:11:11.420,0:11:18.420 the spring and the detent for the buffer drop into the hole on the back of the receiver they will pop out you will lose them in the carpet somewhere 0:11:26.080,0:11:33.080 if you dont hold your finger over it as you screw the buffer tube in it's going to go in to hold that buffer retainer you dont want it pressing up against the tit of the buffer retainer 0:11:37.300,0:11:44.300 just enough to hold it on the shoulder turn it slightly passed that take your takedown pin with the troph pointed up slide it in to position 0:11:50.000,0:11:57.000 take your takedown detent drop it in to the hole and then set the spring on top of the detent and the hole your takedown pin should not turn if it's properly positioned 0:12:02.340,0:12:09.340 Slide the end plate all the way back take your fingernail or something and push down on the springs so it's under the end plate and the endplate will push down into postion 0:12:14.760,0:12:21.760 hold your thumb over it and then turn the castle nut until it gets tight again remember there's a spring under here if you turn it too far it'll shoot across the room 0:12:25.940,0:12:32.940 if you put the spring in for your take down detent before your turn in your buffer tube the endplate is going to continue to hit it will either fly out and you'll lose it or you'll bend it 0:12:40.940,0:12:47.940 so put it in in that order take your armorers wrench and tighten down the castle nut and then take the center punch and stake the castle nut 0:12:48.420,0:12:54.740 you'll see notches that we talked about earlier on the castle nut that are towards the receiver 0:12:57.400,0:13:04.400 if you take a center punch place it on the endplate next to the notch strike it lightly with a hammer it'll dimple the steel 0:13:04.400,0:13:06.440 and it'll keep the castle nut from backing up 0:13:14.740,0:13:21.740 your buffer and spring will then slide into the buffer tube and lock in behind the buffer detent your stock will slide over the buffer tube pull out 0:13:22.620,0:13:28.780 on the adjust ment portion of it so it'll slide in and then you have assembled a lower receiver 0:13:33.100,0:13:40.100 Very simple not very complicated you dont need a large number of tools to do it there are tools out there that will certainly make it easier
AR 15 Build Legality Of Being an AR Manufacture
0:13:40.100,0:13:41.460 it is not legal for you to build this for somebody else 0:13:42.740,0:13:49.740 it's legal for you to build it for you but if you're building it for your neighbors your friends guys at work that is not legal for your to do it but you can help them 0:13:49.740,0:13:55.380 but you can't be the builder of it it makes you a manufacturer and you can get into trouble with the atf on that 0:13:58.740,0:14:05.740 if you're building a pistol you cannot have a stock on it it has to have a pistol buffer tube and you can't have an adjustable stock or a stock 0:14:05.740,0:14:11.300 there are arm braces out there that will mount to a a pistol tubes that would be legal for a pistol one other thing 0:14:11.720,0:14:18.720 it can't be a rifle and then you decide you want to make it a pistol you can start with a stripped receiver andi t can be a rifle or a pistol 0:14:23.180,0:14:30.180 but you can't take a rifle receiver make modifications to make it a pistol check with the atf on go to atf.gov there's plenty to read through google it 0:14:30.660,0:14:37.660 and you'll get the phone book there's lots of information out there on what is and is not legal to do just because you know how to assemble one 0:14:37.660,0:14:41.640 make sure what your doing is legal and is legal in the state that you're doing it in. 0:14:41.640,0:14:42.860 Again this is Charles with Safe Home Consulting 0:14:43.860,0:14:47.060 visit us at 8722 E 41st street in Tulsa Oklahoma.
